MTG Tournament Night

Last Saturday we had a Sanctioned Tournament sponsored by The Candy Basket, a local candy store here in Parsons.

First place won our Avacyn stand-up from the SOI prerelease.

 We also had a mini tournament for the younger players.  They got a free ready to play deck as their prize and to play their tournament with.

Only 2 more Friday Night's left this month and yes, we're playing MTG!  We have a $15 SOI Draft coming up this weekend, and next weekend is open play.  Bring your cards and your fellow MTG friends and play some magic at The Castle!

More Floor Work and Fountain Critters

We made some major floor progress this past week  11 squares total!  We have been averaging 3-4 a week.  WOO!  Puts us right at or a few squares over half way.  Next step after the floor is the plumbing in the kitchen up front and the electric work up front.  Our new target date, since April 1 has already slipped past, is June 1st.  WE can do this!  We WILL do this!

I've wanted to add something to the fountain.  It was just so plain.  I found these cuties at the dollar store.  Me Froggy and Me Turtle.  Aren't they just adorable!

The weekend MTG at Cosmic Castle we will be hosting 2 Headed Giant for Friday Night Magic and Shadows over Innistrad Game Day on Saturday.

April Magic the Gathering

April is a busy month for MTG at Cosmic Castle.

We started the month out with the newest prerelease, Shadows over Innistrad.  Friday Night Magic has been planned as well as a few Saturday Events!

Parsons Cosmic Castle MTG Shadows Over Innistrad Prerelease

We are getting ready for the latest MTG Prerelease! It's happening at 12:01 am on Saturday April 2nd.

 

It's been almost a year!

Yes I can believe We have neglected to keep the blog up.  Does that mean we have been busy?  Yes, it does.  Here is a quick highlight of the past year.

We got off to a rough start in our new building.  Everything was going good until we turned the water on.  We ended up with a water leak under the sidewalk.  Yes, on our side of the meter.  Finally got that fixed.

During the summer we started hosting "The Portal" which is sponsored by Chris and Melinda.  The Portal is a time for young adults (teen to early 20's) can come in and enjoy spending tome together playing games, chit chatting, and having fun.

In August we got set up with Wizards of the Coast to sell Magic the Gathering cards, decks, etc.  We hosted our first ever prerelese in October.  It was a grand event!  We just made the requirements just in time.  Our Wizards rep was quite impressed with our numbers considering the size of our town and that we were an arcade.  :-)

In October we participated in the Monster March.  Handed out a lot of candy to the local kids.

In December we participated in the Christmas Parade......and came away with an honorable mention with our "PacMan Fever" entry.

Since then, we have been working on  temporary kitchen up front.  It will be a while until we can get the back fixed the way we want it to have our dream kitchen.  We will share more about that in our next post.

Some Excellent News!

We are excited!  We have found and are purchasing a building in Downtown Parsons, for Cosmic Castle.  No it's not the one we are currently in. We are asking for your help!  We are using our Token Cards as a way to help generate extra income for the move/building/etc.  The cards don't expire, and you can use them even while we are moving into our new place.  We do plan to be open and have the games available.   The best part......everything will be in the SAME ROOM!

Cards are available at Cosmic Castle, Steve's Lock Out (1806 Main, just a couple doors west), and  from our website.

On November 1st, we will be joining other small businesses, crafters, and more at the old Arron's building (out by save-a-lot, in Parsons) for the Holiday Shopping Spree from 9am to 4pm.

Goodness, I get busy and I forget to come post something.  We have a very busy week this week.  Not only are we having our soups, we are also adding another and having a little celebration.

Yep that's right we have been in Downtown Parsons for almost 4 years!  We opened on Sunday October 9, 2011 at 3:30pm.  People were lined up at the door waiting on us to open!

We spent 2 months and 2 days painting and building and creating the most fun atmosphere in Parsons.

Here is a glimpse of what the building looked like before we took over.  This was the day after we brought the tables and chairs in.

We hope you can make it!  We are celebrating on Saturday October 11.  We have cupcakes planned.....and we're still planning.

Local 1st Graders Visit

We had the privilege of having some local 1st graders visit us at Cosmic Castle. We served over 100 bowls of ice cream over a 2 day span. Each group was here about 15 minutes each. I wish I would have taken a group picture the first day, but I didn't think about it.

We Encourage Photos!

Many places ask you not take photos inside their business.  We ENCOURAGE you to take photos!  Photos of your food, photos of your kids having fun, photos of your dessert, photos in the blacklight hall......wherever you take photos is fine with us.  Why?  Because we know there is a good chance you will be sharing those photos with your family and friends.  Sharing via text message, twitter, facebook, google+ and more.  When you do take photos, please, be sure to tag us or link to our web page!

Monster March 2013

Each year Parsons has a Monster March, that is sponsored by Commercial Bank, for the kids, on the Thursday before Halloween.  It's a safe friendly way for the kids to trick-or-treat at local businesses downtown.  Cosmic Castle loves to hand out treats!  This year we handed out candy and small toys to 1000 give or take kids.  A BIG thank you to our helpers, we couldn't have done it without you!

Happy 2nd Birthday

Happy 3rd Birthday Cosmic Castle!  On this date in 2011 at 3:30pm we opened our doors.

It was a most exciting day for all! Thank you Parsons, Ks and all our customers from around the USA (and we know we've had one from Germany as well), for 2 wonderful years, keep coming and lets make it a lifetime of food and fun.

Games Fun and Ice Cream for Garfield Elementary 2nd Graders

We are excited to have hosted a few school classes this year.  We don't always have a chance to grab the camera to document these exciting events but we do appreciate them coming to visit us and having fun for a few hours.  This particular class.....actually it was 4 classes all together at 4 different times.....the 2nd graders from Garfield Elementary have been planning to visit since last fall.  One of the teachers contacted us shortly after school started because they classes were going to write a grant.  The project was a hands on project that the kids all participated in and helped planned.  They all got a bowl of ice cream and money for games.  How awesome!  Thanks Garfield Elementary 2nd graders! We also have some classes planning on visiting here in the next couple of days.  We're hoping to grab the camera and document another fun event at Cosmic Castle! Merry Christmas!

Cosmic Castle had an entry in the parade this year! Here's some pictures and a video, and a 5 minute video of the entire parade, which was started recording about 30 minutes before the parade started.

 

You will probably have to be logged into Facebook to watch this video of the actual count down of the rocket.  I will try to get it on YouTube and change it out so anyone can watch it.

If you'd like to watch Parson's 2012 Christmas Parade.....Here it is in about 5 minutes.  Actual parade starts about 2:20, we started recording about 30 minutes before it was supposed to start.  Our entry starts about 4:29.  Enjoy!
